A 56-year-old man from Vélez de Benaudalla is helping the police with their enquiries into the hill fire there on the 23rd of March.
The fire took place in an area of the municipality known as the Barranquillo, which was the second in just a few hours that day; the first one was in the Lagos area.
The Barranquillo fire was soon out and the fire-investigation experts easily located the spot where the fire began, which was on the suspects property. Apparently, he had been burning cuttings and other agricultural vegetal waste.
He had evidently not taken all the necessary precautions when he lit it and very soon the wind had spread the flames onto mountain brush on neighbouring land, towards a wooded area.
