The rain and 60km-per-hour wind put paid to the Semana Santa procession that was to be carried out by Cofradía de La Borriquita on Sunday.
In fact, it wasn’t so much because of the rain, but the gusting winds (wind-force 7) that made carrying the mounted effigy along the streets difficult, if not down right dangerous.
Obviously, those who were thinking of witnessing this popular procession were disappointed.
The wind was blowing over barriers and chairs put out in the Plaza de Las Palmeras, for the occasion where politicians and dignitaries would wait for the procession to pass, so fearing that the effigy could get damaged, or worse still, a throne bearer or a member of the public could get hurt, it was called off.
