The Gualchos-Castell de Ferro Town Hall announced that restoration work on the Torre de Cambriles has concluded.
The work on this 16th Century coastal watchtower had a budget of 61,000 euros. It had been declared a Bien de Interés Cultural back in 1985 and was handed over to municipal ownership in 2009.
Mayor Toñi Antequera explained that the tower had become very deteriorated over the centuries and that somebody had even built a structure up against it, which had to be demolished in order to carry out the restoration work.
The project has not concluded, however, as the Town Hall intends to turn the area around it into a gardened area with the tower being flood lit. There will also be an information board giving the history of the structure.
