Reader: Cotobro Campervans

I was not sure how to have a rant published so forgive this medium to contact you if it is wrong.

Readers Letter 400x250Good Afternoon,

My moan is the amount of vans and camper vans from Cotobro to Almuñécar.

We live in Cotobro and many times the small parking area near Cotobro beach is full of camper vans with nowhere for locals and tourists to park and slowly turning into a van-life, refugee camp.

I shudder to think what life would be like living in one of the houses overlooking the beach with a small armada of foreign, camper vans just beyond your gate and no public facilities (I will leave that thought with you).

They also seem to be migrating just past the Altea-rooms, hotel, parked length ways so not interfering with the road but just spaced enough so nobody can park a car between.

Can I add I am not moaning for the sake of it but surely there must be a time limit on being permanent. I know at least one that has been there over a month.

Do you really think they are contributing to the local economy, unless you count the Coviran that is?

So Mr Almuñécar Mayor, there must be an opportunity here; can we not start charging for overnight stays and longer or even moving them on after 24 hours?

We all pay taxes to live here, so in my mind if your in the same place for a month you are hardly travelling around this beautiful country and therefore open for taxes like all of us or at least paying for the privilege of being stationary in your wheeled conveyance.

Kind Regards
Roberto

Roberto, I hope your not implying that these wonderful, free-spirit, eco-loving types would not take their effluents and camper van rubbish to a properly run disposal point.

You know, one that doesn’t charge a massive amount, set up by sensible town and village mayor’s and councils, or maybe like some locals, just dump rubbish by the bins or in quiet areas that also have areas set aside for such folk. Who may well use coviran or Mercadona or a local shop. Thereby bringing cash into the town or village. I don’t like them taking over an area for ages. But there is safety in numbers.

Abso(bloody)lutely! They’re filling almost every pull-in between Maro and Cerro Gordo as well.
