The body of a man in his 50s was recovered from the water just off playa de Curumbico in the Taramay area of Almuñécar yesterday.
The 57-year-old victim, of Polish nationality, had entered the water from Playa Cabria but the waves and current had swept him round to the next beach, Playa Curumbico, according to the Policía Local.
An eyewitness alerted the Policía Local just before 16.00h.
The first to arrive were three police officers, two of whom entered into the water to retrieve the victim and once back on the beach carried out CPR but to no avail.
The cause of death will not be known until the autopsy is carried out at the Instituto de Medicina Legal in Granada.
