Hopefully, the latest fire, this time in Almuñécar, will be the last one of August 2023, although its outcome remains to be seen.
Infoca has deployed six helicopters so far; one heavy, three medium and two light, backed by four, landbased, single-engined water-bomber planes and two, twin-engine amphibious ones (Canadair).
On the ground there are ten fire trucks and two bulldozers as well as medical & meteorological units. The number of personnel on the ground is 113.
The size of the deployment indicates that it is a large hillfire in the Río Seco Alto area of Almuñécar.
The fire started around 14.30h and Infoca’s most recent report at 16.25h described the fire as Activo, which means that the fire is still gaining ground.
Update: as the evening draws in and the air units are being withdrawn, Infoca has declared the fire’s evolution as “favourable.” The exact location is near the cortijadas (hamlets) Los Bañuelos/Martinez area, which is along the lane leading up to Peña Escrita.
