Staff in a bank branch in Almuñécar pressed the panic button used in hold-up situations one Wednesday morning because they didn't like the look of one of the customers.
A Guardia Civil patrol rushed to the bank and found the man still in side. However, it turned out he was not a bank robber but rather a disgruntled customer. The ‘suspect’ had recently come out of prison and wanted the benefit that the States pays to released prisoners to help them adapt to normal life. However, there were two problems: he didn’t have a bank account to have the money paid into, and he didn’t have any money, whatsoever, on him needed to open a bank account.
Feeling pretty damned frustrated, he continued to demand access to the money he was entitled to, which was when the police arrived. They took him to the police station to formally identify him before releasing him.
From there he went straight back to the bank, which is where he discovered another problem standing between him and the State benefit payments; it wouldn’t be available for another week and the bank wasn’t going to give him an advance. The bank manager then told him that if he didn’t bugger off, they would report him to the Guardia Civil – defeated, he left, because if they did get a denuncia then his probation period would cease and he would be back in jail.
