Sierra Nevada is opening for the first time this season the Veleta area, putting into use La Visera, their most difficult slope.
La Visera (black) is emblematic as it is crowned by the radiotelescope on the Loma de Dílar. With its ski-lift, Telesilla Veleta, skiers now have an extra 10 kilometres at their disposal.
The ski station has had a hard time lately, having to close three time in a short space of time because of high winds, which left the Zayas drag lift completely iced up, putting the red-graded slopes Cordón and Panorámicas out of use until this was sorted out.
Centursa, the company that runs the ski slopes, says that there are over 20 kilometres of skiable snow but this will shortly be increased.
