La Herradura has plenty on this festive season, starting on the first with the inauguration of the Municipal Nativity Scene in the Centro Cívico.
With things organised throughout December, the Christmas agenda will conclude with the traditional Three Kings Parade on the 5th of January.
The Nativity Scene will be opened at 20.00h after being Blessed by the village priest, Néstor Robledo.
Then on the 3rd the kiddies’ park, Manuel Vaquero, will have its inauguration ceremony, too, and the switching on of the Christmas Lights, complete with a parade, entitled, Hada de La Luz (The Light Fairy) which will set off from the Centro Cívico at 18.30h, continuing along the Paseo Andrés Segovia, turning left up the Acera del Pilar and returning down the Prieto Moreno as far as the Centro Cívico.
The first weekend of December, the 3rd and 4th will see a Christmas Fair mounted within the Plaza del Centro Cívico. At 17.00h there will be a Merienda Chocolate & Churros, organised by the Asociación Amigos de La Herradura with the collaboration of Churrería La Herradura, Asociación de Mujeres siglo XXI and Los Berengueles. The takings will go towards funding the Cabalgata de Reyes 2023.
Then at 18.00h there will be the Zambomba Flamenca put on by Niño Caramelo and María Gómez La Canastera.
The Rastrillo Solidario in favour of the Cáritas Parroquial (local church charity) will be held from the 5th to the 11th, both in the morning and afternoon in the Mercado Municipal.
As for kiddies, there will be a Cuentacuentos Infantil (story telling) narrated by Verónica Callejón at 17:00h in the Auditorio Diego Martínez in the Centro Cívico. There will also be Christmas films for children in the same auditorium (free entrance) on the 5th at 17.00h.
Now we come to the second half of the month, when events will be more numerous. A choir will sing Christmas Carols on the 17th at 20.00h in the Plaza del Centro Cívico, performed by the Coro Cosas Nuestras and La Pastoral La Herradura. On the 18th at 12.00h it will be the turn of Coro Bahía de La Herradura in the village church San José.
From the 21st to the 24th, the tradition Christmas procession, Navidad es el Rosario de la Aurora, will wind through the old told from 06.00h, leaving the church and wending through Calle Canalejas, Cale Las Flores, Calle Real, Calle Príncipe and then returning via Calle Canalejas to the church..
There will be a concert in the Centro Cívico on the 20th at 20.00h, entitled Las Carlotas. Father Christmas will have his own parade along the Paseo Andrés Segovia on the 21st at 18.30h. .
On the 27th y 28th there will be the Taller de Dulces Navideños in the Pepe Gámez Hall at the Centro Cívico. Limited places; put your name down before the 23rd at the Centro Cívico. Later on there will be a mixture of Christmas songs and Flamenco with Niño Carmelo & María La Canastera.
On the 30th in the castle there will be the Gran Fiesta Infantil, starting at 16.00h where there will be a bouncy castle and a mechanical, bucking bronco.
On New Year’s Eve the Municipal Band will give a performance at 20.00h in the Centro Cívico and then on the 5th the Three Kings Parade takes place, starting at 17.00h, leaving the Sports Pavilion, working its way along the Paseo de Andrés Segovia as far as the Centro Cívico, where presents will be given out.
