A small fishing boat sank off the coast of the Nijár (Almería) resulting in the death of its skipper.
The boat, Bahía La Isleta, began to go down on Thursday the 10th around 14.15h with three crew onboard, just off Playa de Los Escullos, which is not far from the very popular seaside town of San José .
The other two managed to reach the beach, clinging to a buoy but the skipper became trapped in the boat, which ended up mostly submerged just below the surface (see photo).
Salvamento Marítimo once alerted by 112 sent out a helicopter (Hélimer 202) and a rescue launch, Salvamar Spica. The Guardia Civil also sent out one of their patrol launches with specialist divers onboard from the Grupo Especial de Actividades Subacuáticas (GEAS).
The divers located the body of the skipper and brought him to the surface, where it was taken ashore so that a coroner could sign the death certificate.
The Bahía La Isleta, was of a polyester-resin construction, measuring ten metres in length.
