The Provincial Tourist Board is promoting the virtues of Granada at the Japan Association of Travel Agents (JATA) in Tokyo.

This tourism fair, which runs from the 22nd to the 25th of this month, is the most important one in the whole of Asia, which explains why the Provincial Board of Tourism has mounted a stand there for the last 28 years.

According to the Board, the province of Granada is one of the most popular tourist destination in the whole of Europe for Japanese tourism, who are primarily interested in seeing cultural heritage and monuments.

Actually, the said fair, although it has always been held in Japan, has not always been held in Tokyo as during two years it was held in the city of Osaka, followed by a two-year absence during the Covid years. Japan enforced strict Covid restrictions and only dropped these measures a little over a month ago.

The Chairman of the Board, explained that prior to the pandemic, Japan held sixth place amongst foreign tourists in the province (visitors from France, The USA, Germany, The UK and Italy ranked higher). Almost 60,000 Japanese tourist stayed at hotels in the province during 2019, which is the number that the Board hopes to attract again.
