A Chocolate Titantic

Master chocolate-maker, Álvaro Romero, has built a huge model of the Titanic entirely out of chocolate and it is on show in Torre del Mar.

AXA Chocolate TitanicThis work of chocolate art has been on display since June on a premises that has 150 sq/m of floor space belonging to the chocolate chief where his business, Choco-Expo, is. It will run until the 30th of September.

The chocolate replica of probably the most famous ocean liner in history, SS Titanic, is six metres long and 500 kilos of chocolate (half a metric tonne) have been used in its confection. These dimensions make it the largest model ship of this kind in the world, according to Sr. Romero. He has also made a number of models of emblematic buildings from London and New York.

These model buildings are made out of 1,500 kilos of pure chocolate (white, black and milk chocolate) as well as nuts and other ingredients to recreate them, amongst them the Empire State Building, Big Ben (the tower), Saint Paul’s Cathedral and the Chrysler Building.

Keeping chocolate models in a perfect state requires control of ambient temperatures and the occasional application of preservatives. So, don’t think that you can sneakily scoff a lifeboat or funnel because this chocolate is not edible. Fear not, though, you can buy all sorts of chocolate goodies on the premises.

This is the first time that he has mounted an exhibition like this one on the Costa del Sol, having previously mounted them in Barcelona and Sevilla.
