Coração came about as a musical project with musicians who have Jazz backgrounds and a passion for MPB Música Popular Brasileira, Brazilian Popular Music).

Coração’s idea is to share with their audience Brazilian, Popular standards, written by their most outstanding composers. The group definitely wants people to know there’s a lot more to Brazilian music than the Girl from Ipanema.

The project has been running for a bit over a year now and they have been performing mainly on the Costa Tropical, in the Axarquía, Sierra Nevada & the city of Granada but they’re ready to spread their wings and try their luck in other parts of Spain.

Carlos Martin (Guitar) and Judith (Vocals) started this band together. Carlos is one of the best Jazz guitarists in the province and Judith’s passion for Brazilian music was inspired by the records that her father brought from Latin America in the 80s.

Carlos started playing in the 70s in dance bands before turning to Jazz in Granada in the 80s, having played with Jazz musicians like, David Wilson Lenker, Chano Dominguez and Kiko Aguados as well as being a member of the Granada Big Band. In the world of Blues, he also joined the Blues Band de Granada, participating in their albumn Negro en Tierra de Blancos in 92 , which received unanimous reports from music critics.

Judith lived in New York at the time within the Brazilian community there. Following this she studied Jazz with Barry Harris at his Jazz School Theatre. Judith, who is originally from Madrid moved to Almuñécar four years ago and has been delighting local audiences with her powerful and captivating voice.

Carlos and Judith played with several musicians before finding the perfect, trio sound with Victor Olmedo, (Drums/Vocals) who is from Granada. They will be accompanied by two more musicians for their Majuelo Park concert: Miguel A Corral, (Guitar), also from Granada (and who just is an accomplished Flamenco musician – he also lived in Brazil) and David Elorriaga, who will come down from Madrid for the the concert and who is one of the most sought-after bass players in Spain and tours the country with top bands.

So, when is it? The concert is on the 18th in the Majuelo Park in Almuñécar and will start at 22.30h. Entrance tickets can be obtained at the Casa de La Cultura or Viajes Eroski.
