An 84-year-old driver had to be pulled out of his car which was wallowing in the surf Thursday evening in Torrox.
His car had left the N-340 just after Torre de Calaceite travelling East and plunged down into the sea which lies a couple of meters below the road.
The 112 emergency number received a call just after ten that evening. It required the immediate presence of the Nerja fire service because the man was trapped inside and water soon began entering into the passenger space.
The Guardia Civil and an ambulance were also despatched by the call centre. The fire personnel soon got him out of the car and up to the waiting ambulance.
The elderly victim was treated on the spot before being taken to the Hospital de la Axarquía. The fire personnel then managed to get the car back onto the road to be retrieved by a breakdown vehicle.
