This coming Sunday will see the first of the programmed walks organised by the Almuñécar Sports Department for 2022.

Senderismo 2022 has a total of 15 routes spaced out during this year, split into two groups, one either side of the summer.

According to the Councillor for Sports, Luis Aragón, the walks will take in areas within both our province, as well as the Axarquía over in the province of Málaga.

The pre-summer routes start with Ítrabo and conclude on the 5th of June hiking through the Silleta de Padul.

The post-summer routes will begin on the 11th of September exploring the area between Pinos del Valle and the Pantano de Béznar, and will conclude on the 5th of December walking between Lentegí and Puerto Viejo.

“As alway we have tried to cover new and varied places for our growing number of hiking enthusiasts,” said Councillor Aragón, pointing out that last year around 500 people in total participated in these organised walks, despite Covid restrictions making things more complicated.

There will be posters around town, at key points, such as tourist information offices and sports facilities, which will have QR codes on them; these will replace the printed brochures – the former being more effective than the latter.

He concluded by pointing out that each walk will cost the same; i.e. 12 euros, which includes transport, a guide and insurance. There will also be season tickets for ten hikes costing 100 euros.
