Around 10,000 people from the Costa Tropical protested on the streets of Granada yesterday over the lack of progress on the Rules distribution system.
That was the figure calculated by the protest organisers however the authorities (provincial representative of the Central Government) put it at only 1,200.
The protest was not only over the lack of distribution infrastructure between Rules Reservoir and the coast but also about a lack of coastal defence (breakwaters) as well as a rail connection between the city of Granada and Motril.
The protest was backed by all parties, across the board, even the PSOE whose party heads the national government.
Present were union representatives, politicians, farmers, as well as residents of many nationalities, not just Spaniards, from the Costa Tropical.
The protesters gathered at the Fuente de las Batallas at noon with many having travelled by buses put on by the organisers, and from there proceeded to the offices of the Subdelegación where a manifesto was read out.
Just Almuñécar put on 20 buses as free transport for residents, who numbered around 1,500. Therefore, the number of participants from Almuñécar puts the calculation offered by the Subdelegación into serious doubt as participants came from Salobreña, Motril, as well as many other coastal towns and villages partcipated.
