Seven youngsters over Halloween suffered from carbon monoxide poisoning, one of them so severely that she died.
This situation was brought about because a 23-year-old decided to fire up a generator in an enclosed room in an abanoned bar so that they could have lighting and electricity for their music. For this reason the said 23-year-old has been charged with reckless manslaughter.
The incident took place in Azuqueca de Henares (Guadalajara) on the 1st of November in an abandoned pensioners’ club bar on Avenida de la Constitución.
Between them they had organised a party on the night of the 31st. The premises was 40 sq/m in size but had no ventillation.
The generator, however, was not working correctly and was putting out an abnormally high amount of carbon monoxide, causing the victims to lose consciousness.
The parents of one of the victims had contacted the Guardia Civil after their daughter failed to return home and thanks to her last call home, the police were able to locate where it was made from and find out her whereabouts. When the police arrived they were all unconscious, including the 23-year old.
