Torre del Mar Airshow

Make a note in your diary because this weekend Torre del Mar will be hosting their annual airshow, taking place on the 10th, 11th and 12th.

AXA Torre del Mar Airshow SP21Last year, with the Lockdown, the airshow was cancelled but this year it’s back on track with a programme of 35 participating aircraft.

Amongst those appearing are the Patrulla Aspa and Patrulla Águila; the former is a helicopter display team and the latter an aeroplane one. Also participating will be a Spanish Air Force Eurofighter, which will be roaring around in the sky above the town from the Friday.

The Guardia Civil and Policía Nacional will also be putting on displays, as well as a twin-engine, Infoca, water-bomber aircraft, the Canadair.

The head of the airshow, Pablo González, said that 2021 would be a year of quite a few novelites, including nine participants who have never appeared at the Torre del Mar Airshow before. There are even some that have never participated in airshows in Spain, before, either.

“We have pilots who are amongst the world elite,” said Sr. González, “such as those of the Red Bull team.”

As far as the timetable goes, things kick off on Friday at 09.00h and continue until 18.00h. On Saturday participating pilots will have the day off to rest and then on Sunday, the big day of the airshow, the spectacle begins between half ten and eleven in the morning, continuing on until 15.15h.

But it’s not all about buzzing the crowds because on Friday there will be a chat in the Azucarera de Torre del Mar on the Spanish Air Force, which will be given by the Commanding Officer of the Málaga air base, Colonel Francisco Rafael de Paz.

Then on Saturday at the same location there will be one on ‘anecdotal aeronautics.’ by another retired, Spanish Air Force colonel, Carlos de Palma Arrabal.

There will also be a airmodel display on the paseo in the area of the Son del Rebalaje stage, organised by the local Club de Aeromodelismo Axarquía.

As for transport, there will be a free shuttle service between El Ingenio shopping centre and Torre del Mar. There will also be temporary parking areas put on for this occasion.
