MOT Lobsters Lobbed BackThe Servicio Marítimo of the Guardia Civil confiscated 80 roe-bearing lobsters in the wharehouse at Motril Port where the day’s catches are auctioned.

It is forbidden to catch lobster at this time of year precisely because it is their breeding time.

The officers saw the catch being unloaded off a fishing boat and carried to the warehouse. A quick inspection of the lobsters showed that they had their roe attached to their abdomens.

The fishermen were identified and charged under the Ley 1/2002, de 4 de abril, dealing with fishing sea fishing, shellfish gathering and aquaculture.

At present prices these 80 lobsters, all around one kilo in weight, would have been worth around 6,400 euros. Instead, they were returned to the sea.
