Police Thwart Suicide

MOT Santa Ana A&EOfficers from the Policía Nacional in Motril prevented a suicide in the early hours of the 29th of April. A 55-year-old man had attempted to throw himself off a second-floor balcony-terrace following an argument with family members.

The police received a call at 03.00h on their 091 emergency number by a concerned neighbour as a very heated argument was going on next door.

When the police arrived it was to find the man with a bleeding nose – according to other family members this injury had occurred after he fell down the stairs. The argument was between the man and his 29-year-old step son, living under the same roof.

It was while the police were taking statements that the elder man ran to the terrace and climbed over the railings with the apparent intention of jumping off. However, the police officers managed to hang onto him and drag him back inside.

Apparently, this was not the first time that the man had attempted to take his own life. He was examined by the ambulance medics before transferring him to Hospital Santa Ana.
