The Almuñécar fire service was called out yesterday to tackle a fire in the early hours in the Velilla area of town.
The fire was reported at 04.30h on Calle Velimar and very shortly afterwards the fire service, Guardia Civil and Policía Local had arrived at the scene.
The fire was in a semi-attached house that shares a yard and swimming pool with its neighbour. There was a large pile of material in the driveway which was burning fiercely although the fire didn’t appear to have affected the building, which was also uninhabited.
The material that had been piled up were pallets, papers, files and bedding & towels. There was also an empty packet of fire lighters on a table.
The fire personnel worked at removing partially burnt material from the fire and dousing the flames to keep them away from the hedge.
It is not known who started the fire or why it was done but the Guardia Civil are investigating the incident.
