Almuñécar now has its first park exclusively for dogs… and their owners, too, of course.
The canine park with its 420 sq/m of surface is in the northern part of the Jardines de Alhucemas; i.e., in front of the football stadium Francisco Bonet.
The Environmental Department of the Town Hall decided to bring into being such a facility after literally years of requests from residents, as well as the Asociación de Protección de Animales de Almuñécar (APAMA).
The said animal association has worked alongside the Town Hall, drawing up the project etc, pointed out the Councillor for the Environment, Luis Aragón.
The park has its rules that must be obeyed, which are displayed on a large board for all users to see. The only pets allowed inside, for example, are dogs, where they can be off the lead as long as they are accompanied by their owners – who must be adults. Dogs belonging to ‘dangerous breeds’ must be on a lead and wearing a muzzle, however.
Finally, the gated entrance must be kept closed at all times, except when entering and leaving; in other words, it can’t be left ajar.
