It’s that time of year again in La Herradura because the II Open de Fotografía y Vídeo submarino Bahía de La Herradura 2019 is upon us.
Starting today and finishing this Sunday, this underwater photography & video competition will be taking place in such areas as the Punta de la Mona, the Marina del Este and La Herradura Bay.
Rafael Fernández, Félix Aguado and Jesús Osorio, who have Spanish Champion and Sub-Champion titles between them, and standing World Sub-Champion/European Champion, in underwater videos, José Carlos Rando, will be participating this year.
According to the Councillor for Tourism, Daniel Barbero, the waters between Cerro Gordo and the Peñones de El Santo (Almuñécar) are the richest in the Mediterreanan in Flora and Fauna.
For this reason, he considers, Almuñécar and La Herradura receive between 800 and 1,000 divers every day during the summer months. In fact, it is one of the few Spanish municipalities where this sport can be enjoyed 365 days a year.
Each team will be given a map marking out the area where they can take photos and film video – there are four areas and another four in reserve. Each area is between five and 45 metres down: Los Berengueles, Marina del Este, Punta de la Mona and the Cala del Perro.
Dives will be limited to 75 minutes max and with a maximum diving depth of 30 metres.
