On the 24th of April, the control room of the Torrox Policía Local received a call concerning a person in difficulties in the surf on Torrox beach.
The person in question was a British woman in her 80s who was being tossed around in the surf, unable to gain her footing. Two policemen immediately raced to the scene and pulled the woman out of the sea.
“She told us that her husband had attacked her and that she didn’t want to live and wanted to end her life,” explained one of the policemen.
Despite the fact that she was conscious and breathing without difficulty, the ambulance crew decided to take her to the Hospital Comarcal de la Axarquía given her advanced age.
In the meantime, the police went around to her flat, which was on the beach front, and found her husband, an elderly man with mobility problems. He explained that his wife had been drinking all morning and taking pills, whilst he was out because he had a medical appointment.
The end result was the both of them were in good health and the wife did not want to press charges.
