Readers will remember the controversy over a poster announcing an art exhibition of erotica; the silhouette of a nude woman was considered sexist.

Well, it turns out that the person who designed the poster was a woman, who was not amused by the arguably puritanism exhibited by certain political parties – after all, it was a public exhibition full of erotic artwork, everything from suggestive naked postures to multicoloured phallic sculptures.

Paco Ariza, who is the Chairman of the artist association, Arte-Sur, said, “our intention was not to generate controversy, but rather to chose an image related to erotica,” he reasoned, yet the poster was slanted as male chauvinist.

He went on to suggest, “Those that are criticising the poster should go and see the art exhibition, ” adding, ” they’ve just concentrated one detail, which is perhaps opportunist.”

It was the far-left political party, IU, that criticised the governing party for allowing this (the chosen poster) for an event in a public venue. They objected to the use of “stereotype images.”

This art exhibition is running until the 16th in the Casa de la Cultura in Almuñécar, Monday to Saturday from 17.00h to 21.00h.
