Motril Man Caught Stealing

Around the middle of last month the Policía Local arrested a man who had been attempting to steal from parked scooters in Motril.

They had received a call from a resident to say that an individual was “forcing” mopeds/scooters on Calle Monjas. They moved quickly and caught the person in the acting of forcing the lock on the compartment under the seat of a parked scooter.

As soon as he realised that the police had spotted him, he ran off with the police in pursuit, whilst radioing the control centre for reinforcements and supplying a description of the suspect; height, build and clothes worn.

Another police patrol spotted him but he slipped the net, until between them they caught up with him and placed him under arrest.

The Councillor for Citizen Safety explained that the police searched the area where they had first spotted him and found a total of four vehicles that had locks with signs of having been forced.

They also spoke with some of the bike owners who said that they had been confronted by the suspect and threatened and ordered to hand over their mobile phones too, but had run away only to watch the thief breaking into their bike storage space.

The suspect is a 28-year-old resident of Motril. When arrested he was found with tools on him that were presumably used to force the locks.
