The Motril Golf Course is going nowhere fast where the confiscated holes are concerned, so a group of golfers and locals have taken the lead.
This group’s objective is to save the golf course and in the meantime prevent its physical condition deteriorating further. They concluded that instead of sitting around and hoping for the best, they would take action.
In order to do this they have formed a non-profit association called the (new) Club de Golf Motril. The club’s board has tasked itself with convincing the Los Moriscos members (around 300 people) together with local residents and local businesses that banding together will save the golf course.
The Club de Golf Motril first must obey the Hacienda’s condition in order to be able to hire back the eight confiscated holes and at the same time enter into a contract with the owner of the 10 remaining holes that would permit it to run the whole golf course.
Anybody who is interested in this common cause can put their name down on the webpage clubdegolfmotril.com as founding members.
The club is also going to approach apartment-block and urbanización communities, for financial collaboration: apartment owners who rent out their flats to golfers have already found that business is dropping off.
