Almuñécar Choir Date

ALM officium hebdomadae sanctaeWe have reposted this article as a reminder about this cultural event today.

Holy Week, or Semana Santa, as it is called in Spain, is a particularly important juncture on the religious calendar.

From the point of view of Catholic tradition, we commemorate the lead up to the death and sacrifice of Jesus Christ, which in turn offers us all the opportunity to accept the grace of God.

In contemporary Spain, it marks a time to join together as a community, partake of a common spiritual experience and take time out from our normal routine.

The Almuñécar City Choir would very much like you to feel a part of this emotional time, by joining us for a performance at Almuñécar’s main Church; la Iglesia de la Encarnación on Thursday 22nd March from 8pm.

Free to the general public, this performance will feature our choir, together with the very talented Paloma Herrero (Pianist), under the careful and sensitive direction of our very gifted Pablo Guerrero.

The title of this collection of works, which dates back as far as the Middle Ages, is the Officium Hebdomadae Sanctae, recognised as the principal assembly of pieces, coupled with lighting and atmosphere, to celebrate this mystic time of year and the powerful Passion of Christ.

You could just stay at home and feast on Easter eggs, or you could take this opportunity to experience something really moving that goes back to the very roots of Christianity and reminds us as to why we need to take time to consider the significance of our own lives in this crazy world.

Please join us.
