The Almuñécar Town Hall is going ahead with the Paseo del Altillo works despite opposition across the board from the other political parties.
Besides resurfacing the upper road, a 2-way system will be set up combined with a new roundabout at the beginning of Calle del Cántaro; that’s the one that leads into the Plaza de la Fabriquía and the old Coliseo (see Photo).
Whilst the opposition parties agree that the filtration of rain and irrigation water into the premises below needs to be fixed, they see the 2-way system as completely unnecessary and will only lead to traffic congestion.
According to the Councillor for Public Works, José Manuel Fernández, the work should start in one or two weeks, which means that it will run into Semana Santa, at the very least.
The Councillor, well aware that this very idea has local businesses pulling their hair out, calls for calm because there will be no work during that holiday week.
Editorial comment: What exactly do politicians have against small businesses? They want all the taxes that they can get out of them, yet seemingly make it as hard as possible to run one successfully.
