Coinciding with the chirimoya harvest on the Almuñécar vega, the Town Hall tarmacked the lanes that go through the said vega; the Rio Verde one.
The main thing is not whether it was a bad time to do it, but more importantly, perhaps, that it was done at all, as it received its last resurfacing over 20 years ago.
The Councillor for Agriculture, Francisco Alba, explained, “It’s the vega lane popularly known as the Vega Primera.”
The work affected 1.6 kilometres of 4m-wide lane, giving it a good splodge of tarmac, which cost 50,000 euros.
On the vega lane known as the Vega Segunda, just the potholes were filled in and tarmacked over, rather than laying a continuous layer of tarmac all along the lane.
The Vega Primera is the one that starts just behind the gas station and meets up with the Vega Segunda, which starts off behind the Las Palomas near the Abosol plant nursery.
This circuit is a great one if you want a walk in the summer in the early morning as it is always cool. Furthermore, as it’s completely flat and great for jogging.
