Almuñécar’s Ex-Mayor, Juan Carlos Benavides, who is now the Spokesman for the Partido Andalucista, has criticised the plans to renovate the Paseo del Altillo.
He claims that it “lacks functionality and is a waste of 180.000 euros,” adding that it ultimately delays the pedestrianisation of the area; a process, he says, that is the way that many towns are going.
According to Sr. Benavides, the project will eliminate eleven plant beds, which have over the years grown into “areas of precious greenery.”
The project, he pointed out, that the so-called, 2-way system is only from the Peñon to the road up to the castle, because between the Peñon and the Paseo it will remain a 1-way system, which he considers, will only generate traffic chaos, especially in the summer on the Calle Helga Shonell junction.
He also had comments to make on the forthcoming work on the top half of the Avenida de Andalucia, costing 336,000 euros – a sum of money being spent purely to match surface colours with the other half of the avenue, despite more important work around the town taking second place to it.
Moving on to the subject of the Municipal Market, he finds it ironic that there isn’t 800,000 euros to fix the existing building but there is 700,000 euros to hire a marquee erected in front of the stadium to house the market stalls whilst a new building is being built.
