Fancy a pucker Puchero? Well, you’re in luck as La Herradura will be holding its II Puchero de la Abuela between the 6th and 9th of this month!

Last year, which was the first, the event was remarkably successful, because, let’s face it; what could be more appetising than a bean stew this time of year… even if it still feels like spring out there.

The Town Hall is pushing these gastronomic events during the winter when tourists are scarcer than 500-euro notes to give the hostelry sector a boost. Locals and visitors will remember the Ruta-de-la-Tapa events, for example.

Around a dozen bars and restaurants are participating, distributed along two different routes – the list includes the names of their pucheros:

Route One: Atraque 7 (Puchero Mi puerto), TerraMar (Marmitaco de salmón), Los Toneles (Puchero de pochas a la marinera), La Tapería (Puchero blanco), La Dolce Vita (Puchero de trigo de Mama Paula), Bar-budo (Puchero Bar-Budo).

Route Two: El Salero (Olla de Bombay), El Chorrillo (Puchero de hinojos), El Salón (Puchero de coles), Cúpula Playa (Olla del Cúpula), Casa Antonio (Puchero de San Marcos) y La Barraca (Puchero del Gallego).

The puchero samples will come in tapa form and each customer participating will have a ‘passport’ on which to record their observations on the morsel. The passports of those that have at least visit three establishments will be taken into account to judge the best puchero and will be used in a raffle with prizes from a Nikon L340 wine packs.

Other top prizes include a dinner for two at the Mercato and diving baptism at the Centro Marina; i.e., a diving experience for those that have never done it before.

If you want to take part in the draw, then you have to hand in your passports by 13.30h on the 11th of December. Prize giving for the winning participants and establishments takes place on the 18th at 18.00h at the Centro Cívico.
