A dolphin was washed up on the Playa de La Caletilla, which attracted the attention of beachusers and passersby, until workers removed it.
The creature was alive but very sick when it beached but died shortly afterwards. In fact, early bathers had tried to get it back in the water.
The manager of the Urbaser beach-maintenance company, Miguel Cabrera, said that the dolphin showed now signs of wounds or other injuries.
In recent weeks there have been several sighting of pods (groups) of dolphins off the beaches of Almuñécar and La Herradura, attracted by schools of fish. Furthermore, around a dozen dolphin bodies have been removed from municipal beachs this year.
