A 26-year-old man has been arrested in Almuñécar for allegedly posting a recording of sexual content on social media without the subject’s consent.

This sort of content; i.e., publishing intimate images or recordings of a third party via internet or phone applications (as was this case), is commonly known as Sexting: a couple send intimate images of a sexual nature to each other.

The problem comes when these private images are published on social media as an act of revenge or even blackmail, which is when it become a crime.

In this case, it was during last August that the couple got together and exchanged erotic messages via a phone app that permits messaging, including accompanying images.

One year later the victim found out via her mother that a video of the victim was doing the rounds on Internet; the victim went directly to report it to the Guardia Civil.

The Guardia Civil reminds members of the public that he who uploads the material is not the only one committing a crime; anybody who passes it on is equally responsible.
