A man had to be attended to by medical staff after suffering a cardiac arrest on La Herradura beach on Tuesday the 15th just after seven in the evening.
The lifeguard post received a call at 19.08h from a shop that hires out nautical equipment to say that a man was in a serious state. A rapid-intervention vehicle was immediately dispatched, arriving within three minitues.
This being summer, there were several people from the medical profession on holiday actually on the beach, amongst them, a doctor from an Intensive Care Unit.
With the help of an Automatic Outside Defibrillator and manual resuscitation procedure they managed to reverse his condition so that he could be taken to the Centro de Salud in Almuñécar.
The victim, Almuñequero José Millán had been enjoying a day by the sea with his family when he was taken ill. Thanks to the rapid response of medical services and people with medical knowledge at hand, he is now recovering satisfactorily in the area hospital in Motril.
The man’s family later wrote a letter expressing their gratitude to all those involved, including Windsurf La Herradura, who had phoned in the alert.
