Almuñécar Fire

ALM Punto LImpio Fire2Social media was alive with the fire at the Punto Limpio in Almuñécar, which is just behind the IES Al Andalus, next to the Río Seco riverbed.

The fire, which started close to 19.00h on Friday the 30th, took around 50,000 litres of water to bring under control; or in other words, the fire engines had to refill around 20 times.

The Punta Limpio is a fancy name for a rubbish dump for non-domestic waste; i.e., it’s for old furniture and white goods, etc, rather than what goes in your kitchen rubbish bin.

Because of the fire’s location the El Moruno lane, which runs from the main road near the Guardia Civil post to the river, had to be cut.

Thanks to the large amount of combustible material in the yard, the fire was not declared ‘out’ until 21.00h, although an eye was kept on it during the whole of the night, just in case.
