The Environmental Department of the Almuñécar Town Hall held the Día de los Océanos on the 10th of June, with classes given to school kids by a university professor from Granada.
Prof. Luis Sánchez Tocino, who is an expert in Marine Biology, gave talks and demonstrations to 6th grade pupils from CEIP Virgen de la Antigua, which included a visit to the Peñon del Santo where the importance of looking after the biodiversity of our seabeds was explained.
It was then off down to the beach where the Professor showed them some specimens of the typical sea creatures found on our shoreline.
And from there it was off to the Aquarium, which is always an interesting visit for school children – scares the crap out of the fishes, mind.
