Hungry Waves

ALM High Waves OnLWell, this gale that has swept the coast on the 20th and 25th of April has wiped out just about all of the beach regeneration carried out for Semana Santa – back to square one!

Such was the force of the gale that the Friday ferry to North Africa out of Motril Port was cancelled.

Basically, what takes days to truck in and put in place is swept away in hours, which is why, unless you build beach defences; i.e., groynes, you’re wasting your time and taxpayers money. And because the climate is changing, gales are becoming more frequent.

But not everybody wants these sea defences along their beaches, which is something that we will explain in another article.
