Yet again, and as feared, Almuñécar suffered a black out during Easter, this time on Easter Monday with the town throbbing with tourists.
Consequently, the Town Hall is considering suing Endesa over the power cut during the night of Easter Monday (10th), which affected most of the town and lasted three hours.
Vice Mayor, Ruiz Joya, said, “For too many years Almuñécar has suffered from these power cuts, affecting businesses and people’s daily lives. Our constant complaints to the company’s representatives have served for nothing.”
Apart from studying the possibility of taking Endesa to court, the Town Hall is also contemplating approaching the Regional Government (The Junta), so that they step in and take the utility company to task.
As for the opposition party, Ciudadanos, they cannnot understand, they say, why the governing party has not found a definitie solution to the problem. The party Spokesman, Francisco Torrecillas, says that his party has called upon the Town Council to take “urgent measures” so that this sort of thing does not occur again.
“We consider that the electricity company clearly has a serious problem within its Almuñécar installations,” stated, Sr. Torrecillas.
Editorial comment: just like last Easter, there will be indignation and posturing but it will just blow over until summer when the town’s 15th of August celebrations will be cut short by yet another power cut. Endesa is quick to demand payment from us for our monthly electricity bills but very slow to invest in its ageing and malfunctioning installations.
