Pinching Postie Before Court

AND correosThe Public Prosecutor is recommending a 5.5-year sentence for a post-office worker in Motril, for allegedly pocketing 126,160 euros belonging to several customers.

According to the public prosecution’s case, the thefts took place between 2006 and 2014 when the accused was the branch manager and came up with a way of making numerous illegal withdrawals.

Using several tactics, such as forging the signature of post-office account owners, the accused accumulated the before-mentioned sum. Even when affected customers came to the office to complain that they hadn’t withdrawn certain sums, he allegedly reimbursed the money in front of them, only to cancel the payment after they had left.

He also reportedly altered the balance in their account, bank books to hide the missing amounts.

When all this came to light Bancorreos paid the affected clients the missing sums and then set about suing the accused for the missing 126,160 euros.

The case will be heard between the 27th and 31st of March at the provincial courts in the city of Granada.
