Next week’s English-language film in Almuñécar will be: A Quiet Passion, which is based on the life of Emily Dickinson. Please note that the film is on Monday, as opposed to the normal Tuesdays.

Synopsis: The life story of US poet, Emily Dickinson, beginning at her school days and then covering her adult life when she became reclusive figure as an unrecognised artist.

Starring Cynthia Nixon as adult Emily and Emma Bell as the young Emily, as well as Jennifer Ehle, Duncan Duff and Keith Carradine, the film is largely set in a replica of Dickinson’s house.

The production went through a development limbo; i.e., several years of script, cast and production upheavals, so that the film wasn’t finally screened until May 2015, even though it was announced that Cynthia Nixon was to play Emily back in September 2012.

Despite these setbacks the film received excellent critical response, both in Britain (Guardian and The Independent) as well as the US (The New Yorker).

So that’s Monday the 20th at 18.00h in the Casa de la Cultura.
