Bogus Sheikh Sentenced

AND judge OnLThe Supreme Court has ratified the 4.5-year prison sentence handed down by a Málaga, provincial, law court to Wilson O., for fraud whilst impersonating an Arab Emirates Prime Minister.

His victim was a woman doctor, whom he talked into handing over a total of 622,000 euros.

Using the false name, Sheikh Mohammed bin Raschid, and professing his love for the doctor, he convinced her that he was the Prime Minister of the UAE.

He then managed to get her to make several 25,000-euro transfers to various accounts, as well as 50,000 in cash, explaining that the money was to help innocent Syrians who were suffering and dying in the war.

He also promised her that if she paid out this money, he would compensate her later: he would donate two million to her, but first several taxes had to be paid…

This went on for several months until she contacted the Spanish Embassy in Dubai, asking them to arrange for the return of the tax money she had paid out. Their answer had her immediately contacting the police, which finally led to his arrest.

Editorial comment: it seems unbelievable that an educated person, like a doctor, would be taken in by this, but then again, Dave and I can tell you a thing or two about a bogus Bahraini princess…
