September will see the VIII Festival Sexi Firmum Iulium; four days of Greek and Roman plays at a very fitting venue.

The festival, organized by the Almuñécar classical theatre company, SKS, will be held from the 7th to the 10th of September and will be performed in the Roman aqueduct pit next to Carbonnel’s, explained the Councillor for Culture and Education, Olga Ruano.

The plays will have a symbolic price of one euro, which the theatre goers are asked to contribute after the play concludes.

This annual date in the cultural diary of Almuñécar goes back over the last eight years, however the idea of behind it goes back double that.

The SKS Director, Antonio Cantudo explained that Sexi Firmum Iulium has maintained the same format over the years, using both professional and amateur theatre groups.

This year, Parados Teatro will open the festival with their representation of Electra by the classical Greek playwright, Sophocles. For the second evening, Albis Teatro will perform El Cíclopes by Euripides,

The final two evenings will be in the hands of the professional theatre company, Verbo Producciones from Extremadura with the work Los Gemelos by the Roman playwright, Plautus.

The final night, as it is the 400th anniversary of the death of Cervantes, the same company will stage El cerco de Numancia by Cervantes.

All performances will begin at 22.00h in the Plaza del Acueducto Romano.
