One lucky resident in Almuñécar already enjoys a fibre-optic Internet connection. Work began about a week ago after Telefónica received an installation licence from the Town Hall.

The general installation of this kind of land-line connection is taking place both in Almuñécar and La Herradura and according to the installation company, work is progressing well.

So, what are he advantages of fibre optic over normal ADSL? It’s the download and upload speed. For example, to download a 10MB email attachment would take about 80 seconds using ADSL, whilst a F.O. connection would only take 0.5 seconds. Another example would be, should you wish to upload say 200 photos onto your website; it would take you over two hours via ADSL, yet it would only take 26 seconds with F.O.
