A murder from June 2014 has reached trial, involving a Danish female victim and a Belgian murderer, Dave V., who confessed before the court.
The accused recognized before the jury yesterday that he strangled the 27-year-old victim with an electrical cable and then covered her body with cooking oil and set light to it – her remains were completely carbonized.
The murderer was able to use a spare set of keys to gain access to her apartment in Calle Barcelona in Madrid, as he was an employee of a company that managed the holiday let.
He claimed that prior to the incident he had consumed large quantities of cocaine and alcohol.
When the police found the body in a blackened room, it was face down, carbonized and with a cable around its neck… which ruled out suicide.
The suspect is facing 28 years in prison on counts of murder and arson. However, the defence lawyer recommends only ten years, considering it manslaughter as the man was under the influence of drugs and alcohol.
Editorial comment: most of us have been very drunk at least once in our lives, but none of us have had the urge to murder somebody; a curry yes, but not another person, therefore, how can his state of inebriation be an attenuating circumstance? Surely the urge to murder already existed in the person’s personality?
