More Beach Regeneration Fallout

MOT deteriorated beaches OnLThe Chairman of the Mancomunidad de la Costa Tropical has called for the provincial representative of Costas to resign over the late handling of beach regeneration.

The said Chairman, Sergio García stated, “The fact that the province has a coast only seems to be recognized by those of us who live there; something made obvious by this patent apathy, slackness and ineffectiveness demonstrated by those tasked with keeping its beaches in a perfect state.”

Whilst the Mancomunidad Chairman allowed that spring gales at the beginning of this year had caused “much damage” to the beaches, he roundly criticised the fact that nothing had been done in the following months, putting the Costa Tropical at a disadvantage with other coastal areas of Andalucía as far as tourism goes.

He pointed out, in this respect, that other badly eroded beaches in Málaga, Huelva, Cádiz and Almería had already received the necessary funds so that they could be put in order before the onset of the summer.

He concluded by demanding that the Dirección General de Costas ceases at his post the Jefe del Servicio Provincial in Granada, Sr. Miguel Calleja García.

He also called for the Servicio Provincial de Costa to be transferred to Motril from its offices in the city of Granada.

Editorial comment: it is not hard to see why many here in Granada are convinced that this province is the ‘poor sister’ of its neighbours and is overlooked and sidelined in many aspects, such as road & rail communications.
