The Almuñécar municipal police are investigating the fire that damaged three beach huts in front of Las Góndolas early this morning.
The fire broke out just before seven in the morning and was spotted by the janitor at Las Góndolas, who phoned the emergency services. At that time, only the middle hut was affected, but it soon spread to the ones on either side.
The blaze was pretty fierce and difficult to bring under control as the huts are… were… made from wood.
The gutted huts housed shower and toilets, as well as changing rooms and a storeroom. They were also used by the international Petanca club who played their matches nearby.
The Councillor for Beaches, Luis Aragón, says that arson has not been ruled out.
