Almuñécar photographer, Francisco Mingorance has just received recognition at a top international competition: The International Photography Awards 2015.

The IPA is considered the Oscars of the photography world and Frankie with the Lens received prizes for three of his works entered: El asteroide, El corazón de la tierra and Volando entre Gaviotas, in the Professional, Nature and Aerial categories.

All three photos belong to his latest work entitled, Volando Marte, which is a photo report on Riotinto from a bird’s-eye point of view.

He has spent the last five years flying over Riotinto in a light aircraft, asking the pilot to put it at all sorts of odd angles to get just the right shot. He readily admits that air sickness dogged him and that he nearly lost his camera a couple of times in the slipstream.

The 13th annual edition of the Lucie Awards will be held in Zankel Hall within Carnegie Hall in New York on Tuesday the 27th of October.
