The Latest Council Meeting (24th September) in Almuñécar made permanent a temporary rise in the IBI rates; i.e., local property tax.

The Municipal Account warned, “We can highlight the total lack of liquidity and solvency in the short term, and likewise the failure to maintain the debt payment limits,” going on to add that “urgent measure to reduce expenditure” should be tackled.

Going back to the IBI, the temporary 10% rise that was adopted at the beginning of the Mayor’s first term of office would be in effect for the 2014 and 2015 periods.

However, this temporary measure will become permanent, thanks to eleven votes in favour. This means that the Central Government promise to lower taxes in 2016 will not affect Almuñécar – we’re stuck with the higher rate.
