Councillor Carmen López Santana (C’s), who is an ex-beauty queen, asked her town hall to pay for her trips to and from Chicago when she has to attend council meetings.

Carmen was a prime party candidate on her party’s electoral list for Castilleja de la Cuesta (Sevilla) yet it didn’t appear to occur to her that it could be difficult to carry out the role of councillor in Sevilla and live in Chicago, bless her.

Now, as her party is one of the new ones, whose main appeal is that they promise to clear up corruption, which is prevalent in the traditional parties, this ‘travelling expenses affair’ is embarrassing, to say the least.

The party, Ciudadanos, has hurriedly stated that they do not authorize this expenditure, in no way, shape or form, adding that this attitude is contrary to what the party stands for.

Meanwhile the socialist Mayor, Carmen Herrera, has stated that not one euro of taxpayer’s money will be spent in such a manner.

Her party is going through the process of ejecting her from their ranks, but she refuses to hand in her councillor certificate, which means that she could continue at the town hall as an independent.
